Hey it’s Chris from Berlin again. 🙂
So last weekend a few German colleagues and I had a day trip to the Ring of Kerry. We met up at 8:00 am at the office of the tour host organisation called “Paddywagon” at Camden Quay. After taking our seats in the coach, the tour began at approximately half past eight destination Killarney, a neat little city with a lot of cafes and small shops to go through.
We had a 1 hour stay in the city and then headed to the Ring of Kerry, a famous sightseeing route through the wilderness of the County Kerry, passing by breathtaking landscapes such as amazing mountain ranges or the rugged cliffs of Kerry’s coastside. We stopped at special places such as in ‘Waterville’ a nondescript, but, however, beautiful village next to the sea, which turned out had a famous regular visitor a few years ago – Charlie Chaplin, who used to own a small estate right next to the beach and often visited the town with his family. The next stop lead us to the top of a mountain from which we had a wonderful view down a valley on the one, and down at the coast on the other side.
We also took a break at a restaurant at the top of the mountain for lunch. After a longer ride through seemingly endless wilderness and small villages, located in the valleys between the hills and mountains, we arrived at Killarney National Park, which is characterized by wonderful prehistoric glacial valleys, lakes and rivers. We stopped at a place called “Ladies View” which offered a breathtaking view of the park.
The last break we took was next to Torc Mountain with its famous waterfall and forest areal. In the late afternoon after almost 9 hours of impressing landscapes and new experiences, the coach got us back to Cork at about 7 pm.
In conclusion, I can tell the Ring of Kerry is definitely a place worth a visit.
